Breanna DeLair's 1st Birthday Party at Grandma Michel's in Lincoln, NE. Thirty-one people for dinner BBQ and all the trimmings. Had a great time. What a "hoot" of a party. Breanna, as you can see, had lots of fun with her family and friends. Her Aunt Andree (fashion designer) came all the way from Bali. WOW was that a surprise! And her Great Uncle called her to wish her a Happy Birthday from Portland, OR. And of course, mom passed out lots of Twitterbird Creations jewelry to everyone, including bookmarks and keychains. So be sure and check out Grandma Michel's website - http://www.twitterbirdcreations@yahoo.com. (Some more pictures of my party).

Everyone ate outside -- it was so shady and tables were set up all over. Then we played badmitton, opened presents, had fun with cake - I got to "dig" into my own cake. And then I was tired.

Link to a New Blog - at Artfire

Here's a Link to an all-important Artfire Blog.

Green Kingman Turquoise, Kingman Mines, AZ

Turquoise comes in all shades of blue, to blue-green, with a possible shading towards brown-veined greens. Matrix (veining) may or may not be present in any color(s). It is the natural variations in turquoise that make it appealing. The color of turquoise in American Indian jewelry ranges from brownish green to bright blue.
Found in veins sandwiched in between layers of mother rock, the turquoise can show some of the influence of the mother rock in its matrix or veining. The matrix colors range from blue to golden brown to black and sometimes with golden flecks (sometimes called "fools gold" or iron pirite) which is very desirable.
The more blue, the higher the copper content. The more green, the higher the iron content.

Kingman Turquoise Mines, Kingman, AZ

KINGMAN TURQUOISE - All of Twitterbird's Blue and Green Turquoise comes from the Kingman Mines in Kingman, AZ. Our larger deep blue Turquoise is from the Ithaca Mine.
KingmanThe Kingman mine in northwestern Arizona was one of the largest turquoise mines in North America. The terms "Kingman" or "high blue" refer to the blue color usually displayed in this stone. It has become a color standard in the industry. The mine became famous for its rounded, bright blue nuggets with black matrix. Few turquoise mines produced nuggets, especially of this quality. Old natural Kingman Turquoise is rare. The Colbaugh's own this mine and the Turquoise Mountain mine, their company name is Colbough Processing. They have recently gone back into the section of the Kingman mine and are digging and bringing out some new Natural Kingman Turquoise.
Ithaca PeakThe Ithaca Peak mine is located in northwestern Arizona above the Kingman mine. The Ithaca Peak mine is famous for its beautiful blue with pyrite matrix. This material is outstanding. It is owned and operated by the Colbaugh's. It is fairly rare to get good Ithaca Peak as main production is focused on Turquoise Mountain. When you do get good Ithaca Peak it is very pricey!

A Dog's Tooth or a Rare Gemstone - You Decide!

The DogTooth Amethyst also known as the Chevron Amethyst.
I'm passionate about real gemstones. Gemstones from the Earth itself and I want to know how and where they came from. The beauty of the Beast - DogTooth Amethyst. Dogtooth amethyst is a natural stone aka chevron amethyst. Dogtooth has the beautiful color of Amethyst , and it has white bands of calcite. These bands are at an angle and is easy to see why they call it "DogTooth".The stone below is from Zambia. Some are from Brazil, Africa and Mexico. Some refer to this stone as "the Breath of Life" and is good for meditation, The Greek meaning for Amethyst is "without drunkeness". The amethyst symbolizes piety, humility, sincerity and spiritual wisdom. It is also know as the healing stone. I'm not too sure about this. I wear an amethyst everyday on my left hand, and my arthritis is just as bad as ever.Quality stones of DogTooth Amethyst are limited. Twitterbird Creations' jewelry pieces are from A plus grade stones of DogTooth Amethyst.

Gemstones from the Earth

Are gemstones really from the earth?
Gemstones are from the earth! Every artist believes differently in their creativity and their medium to work in. Early-on I only wanted to work with true, vibrant colors and genuine stones. I didn't want any man-made medium, plastic or plated metals. During this particular Post, I will try to show the reader just how I came about to work with real gemstones. Also referred to as semi-precious gemstones. From the Earth to you. My first image is a Lake Superior Agate from Glacial Deposits in Southeastern Nebraska. Now this is not the agate I use in my jewelry, however, the similarity is awesome. You will see just how and why I became interested in using a part of the Earth for my jewelry medium.

1900s Agate or 2009 Agates, You Deside
Agates were formed over a billion years ago, and then washed away during the ice age, leaving the "Lake Superior Agates". The Red Line Agate is one. The one shown in my blog is the Lake Superior Agate found in southeastern Nebraska. Of course, this isn't where I purchase my agates -- but look at the close resemblance. Modern day gemstone dealers have named this the "Red Line Agate". And I have used it in my jewelry.
